Hanging out in Corrales, bordering Albuquerque, on yet another
home exchange. We decided to come take a look at the area
to figure out whether we'd be happy living here in the Albq
area. 2007 will likely be the year we'll need to figure
out how to once again try to make money like normal people, and
the wages north of the border are considerably better than south
(17 million Mexican immigrants can't be wrong!). Why
Albuquerque, you ask? Well, it meets the criteria of a)
good weather, b) decent-sized downtown area, c) interesting
cultural scene, and most importantly - d) it hasn't yet got
crazy expensive like, say, California. Our home here is great,
a 4,000+ square foot pueblo style home with 12 foot high wood
beam ceilings, three fireplaces (including the one outside), and
all sorts of luxury amenities... And they get our 450 square
foot condo in Puerto Vallarta. The city itself, while no
San Francisco, seems like it has potential to be a pretty cool
place in the not too distant future. There's lots starting
to happen here in the downtown area, with new businesses,
restaurants, added public transit, and of course the requisite
loft-condo explosion. We've also met some great people.
After spending Christmas in Michigan (one last trip to the
frigid North), we plan to drive back to Albuquerque for another
couple of days before heading to Mexico for the winter. |
