Left early for a long but fast drive (gotta love those Italian
autostradas!) from Provence to the Italian riviera towns of the
Cinque Terre. We're in Italy! And there are Italians
here, sprinkled amongst the thousands of American tourists.
Scott enjoys talking to a couple of the locals, who seem like
caricatures of Italians... Do your best fake Italian accent -
that's just what they sound like!
Unfortunately, Caroline has been getting a little sick (and
homesick), but recovered well enough by our first morning to be
able to hike down the coast, which is essentially 'what you do'
when you're a tourist visiting the Cinque Terre. It's
beautiful here, and the towns are ever-so-postcard-worthy, but
after being in the Scottish Highlands, the Alps, and Corsica, it
just doesn't pack the punch that I'm sure it would have if we'd
have come straight here from the U.S. or Mexico. And with
the throngs of Americans (many of them 'ugly'), it's hard for us
to fall in love with this area like so many people seem to.
