We can't believe how quickly our month in Scotland has passed!
Tomorrow, the time has come for us to take a train from
Edinburgh to Glasgow and then fly to Barcelona from there, where
our friends Daniel and Leonne will pick us up and take us to
their home in Spain, about an hour outside Barcelona.
We've had a great time in the UK and it's been pretty easy, as
far as Europe goes, except for the driving maybe, which took us
both about a week to get accustomed to. The scenery has
been breathtakingly beautiful and we really loved having the
opportunity to experience the energy of the Fringe Festival in
Edinburgh. While the Scottish are a bit more friendly and
outgoing than their neighbors to the south, people in the UK, we
have decided, are not known for their zest for life or for
"living well". They seem to be happy (or grumpy about, as
the case may be!) with very little, which can seem at least a
little depressing to us American-Mexicans. We are looking
forward to experiencing the more indulgent, luxurious lifestyle
of warm weather, good food, leisurely cups of good
coffee, and lots of wine that seem to be in evidence in the
southern part of Europe, including Spain. As much as she
loves sausage rolls with brown sauce and Scott's homemade
Scottish favorite, rhubarb crumble, reading Rick Steve's Best
of Europe 2006 yesterday in preparation for our Spain visit
nearly had Caroline drooling in anticipation!
Today will be spent cleaning up the house (which is huge by
our standards - luckily it wasn't that clean to begin with!),
cleaning the car, inside and out (we put 3,000 miles on it
during our tour of the UK and Scott took it for an oil change
yesterday while Caroline finished the last bits of laundry),
putting things back in their places and packing up all of our
belongings that have become strewn about the house! The
downside of home exchanging, I guess!
Goodbye Scotland - thanks for the hospitality! |
