It's 7:30 on Tuesday
morning. Caroline gave up trying to sleep anymore on the hard,
hard bed (ah, we really are back in Mexico!) at the
Mexico City airport Fiesta Inn. Besides, her body thinks
it's 2:30 in the afternoon...
After our return from Belgium, we were totally sight-seeing-ed
out and we spent our final two days in Gouda relaxing and preparing to leave Daniel and Leonne's
apartment for the long journey home. We took one last bike
ride through the countryside outside Gouda on Friday. It
was truly idyllic. Caroline will really miss this place.
On Sunday, the weather turned cloudy and chilly, perfect weather
for catching the train out of Gouda to Paris in order to catch
our flight out of Paris on Monday morning. It was a hectic
and long travel day, with three different trains to catch. We arrived at our airport hotel in Paris (incidentally, a
Holiday Inn, so ugly and decrepit that the French should insist
that it be torn down) at about 6:30
pm. After enjoying a little walk and what is probably the
best chain-hotel-restaurant food we have ever had in the
hotel cafe/bar, we turned in, to prepare for yet another long
travel day again tomorrow.
Although we left the airport hotel almost 3 hours before
our flight was to depart from Charles de Gaulle, the lines were
so crazy that as soon as we finally made it through security we
had to board the plane. So much for those final cafes cremes and croissants we'd been looking forward to!
The flight was uneventful and long, but customs in Dallas was
smoother than smooth and we had a little time to sit in the
Dallas airport before boarding our final flight to Mexico City.
Caroline got to relish being in the U.S. for two hours before
heading back out of the country. Upon arrival at the
Mexico City aiport (which incidentally seems extremely organized
and tranquil after being at Charles de Gaulle), we found the shuttle to
our hotel without trouble and after driving through some
sketchy-looking neighborhoods (oh wait, this is Mexico,
everything looks a little sketchy), we reached our pleasant
airport business hotel, watched a little TV and zonked out.
Now for our final leg of this three-day adventure: 4 hours on
the bus to San Miguel! Almost home - time to check on the
remodeling progress! |
