Being the superb hosts (and wonderful friends!) that they are,
Daniel and Leonne took us in their car yesterday for a visit to
the popular Kroller-Muller Museum. Caroline was anxious to
see the museum, as her grandmother had wanted to visit it the
last time she was in Holland, and she was in our thoughts that
day. The museum, which contains a sculpture garden and
some indoor modern art exhibits as well as paintings by famous
artists, such as Van Gogh, Seurat and Picasso, is located on the
grounds of a large nature area and a fleet of white bicycles is
provided for visitors to ride on the park's many kilometers of
bike paths. We thoroughly enjoyed riding around the park
(thanks to Daniel for his expert navigational and map-reading
skills) and stopping to eat the picnic lunch Leonne lovingly
packed for us on what turned out to be the most beautiful and
sunny day of our trip thus far. After a great day in the park,
we stopped on the way home at a farm store and bought supplies
for dinner, including some delicious white asparagus.
Leonne cooked a wonderful meal and the four of us enjoyed the
fruits of her labor on the terrace. It was a lovely day
well-spent, made all the more special by being able to share it
with new friends.
Sadly, Leonne and Daniel left for Spain this morning, to
visit friends and to do some work and relax at their other home
outside Barcelona, where we will visit them in August. We
are already looking forward to our reunion with them this
summer! (Don't worry, D&L, we promise not to burn down
your house or catnap your cat friends!)
