The flowers are in full bloom and Caroline just had to go to the
famous flower gardens to see the action. So this morning
we got up and took the train and a bus to the gardens with
zillions of other tourists who are in the Netherlands to see the
tulips. After a little over an hour, we arrived at
Keukenhof and strolled with the masses through thousands
(millions?) of beautiful tulips, daffodils and wonderfully
scented hyacinths, all in an amazing array of colors and
varieties. Truly a delight for this flower lover!
(It's just too bad the weather felt more like winter than
spring!) It was a pleasant bus ride to and from the gardens,
as we passed through some smaller towns along the way. It
makes Caroline laugh how much the buildings here in the
Netherlands look just like the structures at Dutch Village, a
Dutch-themed amusement park in Holland, Michigan near Caroline's
home town of Grand Haven. And after finding an excellent
selection of Rusk crackers(??) at the grocery store, which
Caroline used to eat as a child, she feels right at home!
Well, it's Queensday tomorrow, the annual celebration
of the Queen's birthday, and the party in Amsterdam kicks off
tonight. All the sidewalk urinals are in place in preparation
for the festivities...
