It was a hot, humid,
quiet Sunday over 4th of July weekend (okay, not a holiday here,
admittedly, but old habits die hard and it felt like we should
be doing something festive). Our friends Elba and Susan
were down from SF for the week putting the finishing touches on
their new condos in Sayulita, and invited us to come up for a
visit and hang out at the beach for the afternoon. Scott
has been dying to try surfing since we got to Florida, but
something always came up (weather turned bad, surf rental shop
was closed, etc., etc.). As it happens, Sayulita is a
popular spot for surfing and Susan and Elba are avid surfers.
They kindly offered to lend their boards and give Scott some
pointers. He was a natural and by the end of the day, he
even rode a wave all the way in, looking like a pro!
Caroline is afraid that before too long, we'll be driving around
with a surf board strapped to the top of the car!
After a fun but
tiring afternoon at the beach, the four of us piled into
Chevy-Girl and drove up the road to San Pancho for an excellent
meal (and a not-so-excellent Mexican songstress's live rendition
of 'Hey, Jude') at El Gallo restaurant before saying our
goodbyes. Maybe the next time Susan and Elba come back,
Caroline will even get out there and ride some waves (or at
least try, anyway)! |
