Finally, we enter Texas. Things seem Texan in Texas. We even saw
a herd of buffalo as soon as we crossed the border. Amazing,
once you cross the border out of the states that we call the
‘Deep South’ (AL, MS, LA) and into Texas, it does seem
different. Roadside swamps turn into cattle ranches, ramshackle
businesses turn into huge stores with names like ‘McCoy’s
Lumber’. And yes, things seem bigger here. We stayed at a hotel
called Hotel Eleganté, a sort of conventioneer’s hotel in need
of some remodeling (which they were doing while we were there).
We checked in and went to the fitness room, hoping 35 minutes in
there would get us back into our peak forms after our New
Orleans bodily abuse (yeah, right). The furniture in the room
was all extremely oversized (that’s Texas I guess), but not too
bad of a place.
We spent some quality time catching up on TV shows that we’d
downloaded, after discovering a while back that you could do
that fairly easily with bit torrents. Caroline is so happy that
she has been able to stay on top of all the happenings of The
O.C. ! On our only evening in Beaumont, we had a blast being the
only dine-in customers eating some awesome Chinese food and
playing air guitar to the Muzak tunes they had playing in what
had to be the sleaziest Chinese restaurant in Beaumont. And
that’s all for Beaumont, folks. |
