Jacob and the Big Chicken
01/20/05 - 01/21/05 - Marietta, GA (Photos)

Staying with the Bentons at their new home in Marietta with new baby Jacob

Arrived at Chad and Dawn Benton's beautiful new home in Marietta where they are enjoying the suburban life and much more space than in their old condo in mid-town (the Atlanta condo is still for sale, for those interested in a fine downtown property).  Their son Jacob was 6 weeks old the day we arrived, and seems to be doing just great.

Since our arrival in Marietta, we've had the best weather we've experienced since leaving California!  We're happy.  The new parents loaded up the Baby Bjorn™, and we all went for a walk around historic Marietta Square in sunny and nearly 70 degree weather.  Sat outside in the sun having some drinks, drove by "The Big Chicken", a famous Marietta Landmark that all things are located relative to ("we live 13 miles northeast of The Big Chicken").  Being in the South, we also got to expand our vocabulary by utilizing the term catawampus (pronounced catawhhumpus) with much frequency - meaning askew, or crooked - as in, "I tried to take a picture of The Big Chicken, but it turned out all catawampus".  The Bentons secured a babysitter (their good friend Trish - lesson here is to be very careful when you tell new parents that you'll baby sit for them any time) so we could go out to M F (Magic Fingers) Sushi and scarf down (in less than 35 seconds, I think) a big tray of delicious sushi, followed by the scarfing of some fantastic desserts and cappuccinos at the coffee place next door where we enjoyed live smooth jazz with Atlanta "urbanites".  Props to Chad and Dawn for the great plans.

Chad and Dawn love the Red Bull and Vodka, so discussion ensued about Sparks! brand alcoholic/energy drink.  So after dinner, we had to see if they sold it in the Atlanta area.  Turns out they do at Mink's in Marietta; congratulations to you Atlanta/Marietta residents!  Nothing like cappuccino and Sparks! before bed.  We're leaving this morning (Sat 1/22) for Savannah, where we're supposed to have another beautiful day.
